FIGS-HSS SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAMME: Awardees 2008-2014
In 2007 the Federation of Indo-German Societies in India (FIGS) and the Hanns-Seidel-Stiftung (HSS) instituted a scholarship programme for German-speaking research scholars to spend six months to a year at a German university to facilitate and advance their M.Phil. or Ph.D. studies. The programme has started with researchers from the Centre of German Studies at Jawaharlal Nehru University and the Department of Germanic and Romance Studies, University of Delhi.
This book provides details of the FIGS- HSS Scholarship Programme and the awardees, under this programme, for the period 2008-2014, with titles and abstracts of their research. It also has Indexes – one each for the scholarship awardees, topic of research in English and in German.
We hope that this book will encourage more students of German language to go in for research and avail of the opportunities offered by the FIGS-HSS Scholarship Programme. The comments of several of the awardees indicate how useful their stays in Germany proved to be, not only for furthering their research, but also for widening their perspective and knowledge of life and culture in Germany. The titles and descriptions of the research areas indicate their diversity. The comments of several professors of German Studies illustrate the importance and contribution of this programme to promoting a general but important stimulus in German Studies in India and in deepening the ties between India and Germany in the long term. We hope these will provide fodder for thought and will provide ideas for those considering venturing down this path.
